abstract = "The Cafuringa Environmental Protection Area is situated at the
Federal District northwestern portion, Central Brazil, close to
the Bras{\'{\i}}lia National Park and the Contagem Biological
Reserve. Landsat images segmentation and classification by Isoseg
allowed land use and vegetation cover mapping and multitemporal
analysis (1973, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 1996, 2000 and 2002). The
results show the tendency of suppression of forest and savanna
formations by agricultural and urban areas, especially at the
Contagem-Rodeador tableland. The large farms (more than 100 ha),
firstly characterized by soy and corn production and later by
grass, are being substituted by small properties (2 ha), with no
or minor agricultural production, and by residential villages,
increasing the urbanization pressure over the environmental
protection areas.",
